Sports Competitions are an integral part of life for the students at Shenzhen Foreign Languages School. Through Sports Competitions, students learn to cooperate with each other through utilizing teamwork,
and improving their communication abilities. In addition, Sports pushes students to enhance their physical prowess and strive for being the best. Each class competes in several areas throughout the school year with other classes in the same grade level. Sport Competitions include Basketball, Volleyball, Tug-of War, Synchronized Exercise Performances, Track and Field, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Javelin throw, Shot Put, Sprints, Long-Distance Running, and Relays. One of the most exciting days of the year is Sports Day, where students are able to compete in a wide variety of events.
Morning Exercises occur every morning at SZFLS, but once a year, students compete with other classes to determine which class is the most disciplined, coordinated, and synchronized with their exercise regimens. For this competition, every single student in each class participates and performs in front of judges alongside every other member of their class. Students compete with other classes at their grade level and conclude by watching all of their own teachers do the morning exercise routine that the students have become so familiar with.
The Basketball Tournament is a competition lasting several weeks where each class competes against each other for the Basketball Title. Four students are allowed on the court from each class at a time, but they may use as many substitutes from their class as they wish - in order to promote greater corporation and participation. After several rounds of competition, each team goes into a double elimination round. Boys and girls compete on separate teams and there is one winner per grade level for the boys division and one for the girls division.
The Tug of War is an opportunity where each class competes against each other in order to determine which one has the most amount of raw strength. Both girls and boys compete together and work as a single team in order to win the competition and come out on top. The winning class receives the bragging rights of being the strongest class in their grade level.
Sports Day is the biggest single competition at SZFLS. It lasts several days, but its enormity stems from the fact that the competition consists of dozens of different events. Each of the three days of the competition have non-stop competitions lasting the entire day and touch upon a broad range of skills and athletic abilities. Sports Day revolves around Track and Field Events, but are not limited to them. Included in the competitions of Sports Day are: Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Javelin Throw, Shot Put, 100m and 200m Sprints, 400m, 800m, and 1600 races, and several different relays. Boys and girls compete separately, giving the entire competition a depth of competitiveness and fairness.
